Celebrate with Milwaukee Film Festival’s Cine Sin Fronteras

Eli Jacob-Fantauzzi

Milwaukee Film's Cine Sin Fronteras program explores and unpacks issues surrounding identity, culture, family, history and modernity within the Latinx community. The program will include nine feature films and three short pre-feature films, hailing from the United States, Mexico, Cuba, Brazil, El Salvador, Guatemala and Argentina. The Milwaukee Film Festival runs from Oct. 17, 2019 to Oct. 31, 2019.

This year’s films bring humanity to highly politicized issues like the rise and exposure of immigrant detention centers, showcase the power of art and culture in healing, explore Afro-Latinx identity, and addresses the intertwined issues of family, identity and belonging.

Directed by Eli Jacobs-Fantauzzi, " Bakosó: AfroBeats de Cuba" is an exciting musical journey that follows DJ Jigüe through the past and present of modern Cuban dance music. In this film you will learn of the genre’s African origins and deep influences of the African culture that still manifests itself in today's Latinx music. Along with this documentary, below you will have a chance to discover other great screenings and events happening during the film festival.
