Our musical spirit was very HOUSE last Saturday on 'In The Mix.' We got it kicked off with a new Mark Funk & Danny Cruz featuring vocals from Jody Findley in a track that oozes familiar horn samples for their song called "About You." Music from Weiss, Oliver Schories, Daddy's Groove and more lit up the air waves until it was time to drop it down a few BPMs in the second hour.
Man oh MAN! Steve W. AKA DJ Avets is a crate digging machine from right here in the City of Milwaukee. He reached out to me and said, "Kenny, I have a mix for you but it's old school. Can I get it on your show?" Without hesitation, I threw his all LIVE vinyl set on as quickly as I received it. The mix that takes you to the classic roller skating days of the '70s and early '80s. 88Nine's episodic podcast ' Backspin: The Search for Milwaukee's First Hip Hop Song' discusses some of the elements of the old school skate culture here in Milwaukee, but Steve brings it to life with this mix.
