It’s a bit interesting that there has been a bit of Bollywood style action in town for the past couple of weekends, but here we are. This weekend the action is all music as Sukhwinder Singh is in town for a benefit show. Sukhwinder is a versatile singer who gained international fame for his song “Jai Ho” from the film “Slumdog Millionaire,” which won an Academy Award for Best Original Song due to his efforts. Far from a one trick pony, he’s got a nice catalog of bhangra jams and you know I like to suggest shows that offer a little something different. Special guest Amruta Fadnavis, wife of Maharashtra’s chief minister, is opening on the merit of her viral hit “Phir Se.” Profits from the show support Women's Empowerment, Lymphoma and Leukemia Research and Cardiovascular Research.
Frühling Fest Saturday, May 25 @ The Brewery District, noon - 7 p.m.
All signs continue to point toward the revitalized Brewery District neighborhood becoming a major player in Milwaukee’s nightlife scene. Should the weather hold, this Saturday’s Frühling Fest should be on your radar. With three stages of music along with special craft beer tappings, a beer garden, visual artists and a makers fair, there’s a little bit of everything going on. The music line-up is pretty proper too with artist and bands like Copper Box, Klassik, Shle Berry, Surgeons in Heat and Chai Tulani & the Bomba on a ticket that features many, many more.

The Heal the Hood MKE block party on 10th and Atkinson is an interesting alternative for you Saturday plans. Heal the Hood MKE is committed to healing the hearts, the homes and the hoods through words and actions. The two-four block parties they throw each summer kind of tie the organization’s efforts together. Each block party comes with a huge variety of vendors, free food, a children's area, raffles/giveaways and live entertainment. This one has performances from Homer Blow and B-Free.
Rosé All Day: A Strange Town Block Party Sunday, May 26, @ Strange Town, 11 a.m.-6 p.m.
I don’t know why it took me so long to respect the pleasures of some good rosé. Thankfully, those days are long gone and it really might be my favorite summer variety. In any case, Strange Town, a wonderfully eclectic restaurant on the East Side near North and Farwell, is hosting its first block party this Sunday, with DJs rocking the rarest grooves and serving hand-selected rosés all day. Plus, there’ll be local food and craft vendors, a flower market, bounce house, tarot readers, and knowing them, a few sweet surprises. This should be a hidden gem of a Sunday funday.
MayHam Punk Pig Roast Sunday, May 26 @ The Cooperage, 3-9 p.m.
If rosé is really not your cuppa, The Cooperage in Walker’s Point is putting the pig on point with a spin on the classic pig roast party. From 3-9 p.m., the venue will have an outdoor pig roast party on the lakefront, plus food from Taco Moto, and a vegan spread for all the herbivores, with punk vibes from bands like Assault & Battery, Wood Chickens, Law/Less, Bad Wig and El Wrongo. Looks like a swine time…
