5 things to do this weekend | Jan. 18th-21st

#1

Local Coverage

On Friday, an eclectic cast of nine local acts from all corners of the stylistic spectrum will each play 15-minute sets, covering material of other local bands. Kind of a musical chairs with local music and a pretty cool event to see your favorite Milwaukee outfits in a way you’ve may have never seen them; a parallel universe where the latin trappings of a De La Buena flips the rock sounds of Jaill or Lex Allen re-imagining the Irish punk stylings of Whiskey Of The Damned in a pop-soul style.

Bands like Space Raft will be covering NO/NO, and Girls Rock alums Negative/Positive crafting a set inspired by Space Raft. Local Coverage is a unique event that's also for a good cause as all proceeds will be donated to Milwaukee Women’s Center.

Friday at 7:30pm @ Turner Hall ($12)

MAM After Dark

With the vibrant world of Spanish artist-designer Jaime Hayon on tap in the main galleries at the Milwaukee Art Museum, the MAM decided to make a Latin connection for this month's MAM After Dark. Tomorrow night will have a lot to offer if you want to get your Latin fix. With salsa dancing, Spanish design, and spicy surprises you can explore global Latin culture through art, music, food, drink, and dance. With the afro-latin funk of ¡ESSO! (El Sonido Sonic Octopus) straight of Chicago and Future Rootz, a collective of local and international DJs playing and remixing global roots, tropical bass, world electronic, and Latin house music, the forecast looks very tropical for Friday.

Friday at 7pm @ The MAM ($14)

Pablove Benefit Concert

This year's Pablove Benefit Concert is also a tribute to the music of Tom Petty as it continues to combat childhood cancer with an all-local all-star lineup. As an event, the Pablove Benefit Concert series has always had its heart in the right place and this Saturday's event will make sure the music is there as well. Featuring performances from Sam Llanas, 2017 RMMA winner Abby Jeanne, Gabriel Sanchez (of the Prince Experience), The Wooldridge Brothers, Semi Twang, Louie Lucchesi and Chris DeMay. Plus they'll also have special performances from Trapper Schoepp and old-school Milwaukee rockers Spanglemaker will have their farewell show to celebrate the life of member Tim Phillips. Solid stuff.
Saturday at 7pm @ Turner Hall ($20-$40)

Gallery Night and Day

Gallery Night and Day is an interesting event; there is no central spot to focus on, it's not binary in the sense that most things are, i.e. " go here, see this, do that, recommendation approved. Gallery Night and Day is me saying go to the Third Ward, the Walker's Point  and Downtown and cruise around. See some art, buy some art, catch drinks on your way to see a band rocking a gallery and maybe have dinner along the way. GNaD is a sprawl of events and opportunities to explore and investigate. Click the link and pick your path...
Friday night and Saturday day @ Downtown, 3rd Ward & Walker's Point
