Tribe Uncovered
Gotta say, the timing on the Tribe Uncovered event couldn't be better, hitting on the heels of the latest and last A Tribe Called Quest album. But what exactly is it? It is a continuation of the now-defunct Alverno Presents series and like the others of the series, features local talents re-interpreting the works of far more established artists. That said, Tribe Uncovered is helmed by the multi-talented singer, songwriter, rapper and producer Klassik. Far from being mere tribute, the Uncovered series is about acts and artists whose value is strong enough to merit reinterpretation and in my opinion, A Tribe Called Quest fits the bill that past Uncovered's have displayed and features a house band composed of Foreign Goods, Stomata, and Chris Rosenau and MC's Lorde Fredd33, AR Wesley, Deb.On.Air, Mike Regal, and Strehlow plus DJ sets from our own Jordan Madhatter Lee and DJ emeritus Old Man Malcolm. Honestly, I can't think of a better event happening this Friday, so get some tickets already.

Femfest!
January can be a slow month but don't tell the organizers of the Riverwest FemFest, the five-day festival celebrating women kicked off last night and continues through the weekend at various spots on Milwaukee's west bank. With a lineup of epic proportions, it'll be about the only thing to get into this weekend in Riverwest. The festival is a big benefit event for local non-profits and this year includes Coalition for Justice, Milwaukee Women’s Center and Pathfinders Milwaukee. If you're thinking of going to a few of the shows, I'd recommend getting the five-day pass ($40) as each individual show will run between $7 and $12 and part of the fun of it is being able to pop over to the various spots. And that lineup?

The Wailers
This Saturday also marks the return of one of reggae's most stalwart acts, The Wailers. They'll be playing at The Rave and one of the best ways to connect with the music of reggae's biggest star ever, Bob Marley. They come to town at least once a year and though in some ways it's hard to get hype for a show that happens with such regularity it's also probably the safest bet for a solid evening of music this Saturday night. That's no dis either, the Wailers are effin' good at what they do and tour relentlessly, offering one of the best links to the golden era of reggae that you can find. Don't get there so late that you miss Milwaukee's own Recalcitrant, who help open the show and are quite nice themselves.

Bluegrass Bash V
Bluegrass is a funny genre in Milwaukee; the genre gets no radio love (outside of perhaps WMSE) yet sells mad tickets and has tons of sold out shows throughout the year. Personally, I own no bluegrass and yet even I must admit that seeing a live bluegrass show with good players is fun as hell. So lovers and non-lovers might want to note that a fine lineup of regional bluegrass is taking place this Sunday in Walker's Point at Anodyne Coffee and is a safe bet to be pretty sweet. Featuring Thistledown Thunders and Grasping at Straws in addition to Eston Bennett.

Packers vs. Falcons
Let's be real, this is a cultural event for the whole state. I'm not even a football fan but it doesn't get any better that this when it comes to sports. A win away from the Super Bowl?! And let's not pretend that it won't set the tone for 2017. So go Pack go!
