Umphrey's McGee

Dude! Can you say awesome light show? I would literally go see Umphrey's McGee on the strength of it. Of Course they'll be easy to catch this weekend as they began a three night run last night that continues through Saturday night at the Riverside Theater. They've built a dedicated fan base and are pretty much constantly on tour. Expect cleverly wrought originals and note-perfect covers, their live show has a rep you can only earn. Also on the bill is Earphorik and this is exactly the kind of show I used to think I wouldn't be into, but know better now. Check it...

Thurs-Sat at 8pm @ The Riverside Theater

Son Volt

No secret that we've been into the latest from twang-rockers Son Volt, "Back Against The Wall" from their latest, Notes of Blue here at 88Nine.  Notes Of Blue is skinny but sturdy and showcases Jay Farrar's eternally beleaguered balladry. The album doesn't seem to be trying hard to do anything other than what the band does well and that's a good thing here. Expect a veteran experience, these cats know exactly what they're doing and the live dimension to their sound intensifies the experience. Solid stuff.

Friday at 8pm @ Turner Hall

#4

S. Carey + Klassik + Chris Rosenau

S. Carey’s sound is a seraphically sublime songwriter whose whole thing is evocative of a beauty contained in natural, introspective imagery. Sean Carey's music moves in sync with nature and his Supermoon EP, was actually recorded during a supermoon last August and the Bon Iver sideman brings his music closer to the natural world that inspired it, letting the songs speak for themselves. The Eaux Claire native returns to Milwaukee for an intimate performance in the Back Room at Collectivo with a fine lineup featuring local favorite Klassik and Chris Rosenau.

The Back Room at 8pm @ The Back Room at Colectivo Coffee

#5

Twin Peaks + Soul Low

Chicago's Twin Peaks is bringing their bright glam rock, unapologetic lyrics, and over-the-top live vibe to Turner Hall this Saturday. After getting off to a running start in 2013 with their debut album Sunken, the scrappy young quartet made waves with electrifying performances on tour. The band's momentum continued in 2014 with sophomore album Wild Onion, an adrenaline-fueled slice of post-glam that boasts party-starters and some boot movers. Don't miss Milwaukee's own Soul Low who opens the show.

Saturday at 8pm @ Turner Hall
