If you listened to our podcast Backspin: The Search for Milwaukee’s First Hip-Hop Song
, we’ve got a treat for you!
The Majestics, a longtime Milwaukee funk group heavily featured in the podcast, dropped by the Radio Milwaukee studios for 414 Live. And it should be no surprise — they brought a full-energy, full-band performance.
Dressed in matching red performance outfits and doing the splits on stage, The Majestics performed familiar songs heard in the podcast including “The Key To Love” and “Class A.” The latter, they assert, is the first rap song to be recorded in the state.
The band, which formed in the 1960s, was central to our search for that first rap song recorded in Milwaukee. While we ultimately left it to the listeners to decide what constitutes “first,” we were honored to have them as our guests in studio, and their performance was one to remember.
