How blockchain technology can help the indie musician and transform the industry

88Nine Radio Milwaukee is proud to present 88Nine Labs – a series of tech talks and hackathons aiming to connect the Milwaukee tech and creative scenes, and merging diverse voices and talents. 88Nine Labs is presented by Northwestern Mutual.

On Aug. 7, the third talk in the series features Jesse Grushack. Jesse is the founder of Ujo Music, a platform that uses blockchain technology to create a transparent and decentralized database of rights and rights owners, automating royalty payments using smart contracts and cryptocurrency.

Jesse will talk about how blockchain could transform the music industry and how it can help the indie musician with distribution, royalties and more.

This talk is for musicians and tech folks alike. RSVP for the talk via Eventbrite.

Check out this mini-doc on blockchain and the music industry.

For those who aren’t familiar with blockchain, it is the technology behind cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin.

“The blockchain is an incorruptible digital ledger of economic transactions that can be programmed to record not just financial transactions but virtually everything of value.”

– Don & Alex Tapscott, authors Blockchain Revolution (2016)
