Singer, producer & multi-instrumentalist B~Free, is a Milwaukee native who has dedicated her life to music. Her training in flute, voice and piano have earned her degrees in musical studies from the Milwaukee High School of the Arts, Lincoln University of Pennsylvania and VanderCook College of Music. The release of her latest self-produced sophomore album, the “Ode 2 A Luv Affair LP,” was hailed as the #1 Milwaukee Album by the Journal Sentinel in 2016. B~Free currently serves her musical community as a curator, educator, and artist of all sorts. Having performed in a number of venues throughout the country, Free has shared stages with a variety of artists and provided direct support as the opening act for Janelle Monáe’s Milwaukee tour date at Summerfest 2018. Her treasure chest of talents continues to catapult her up the ladder of the music scene, as she remains hungry to give music what it’s been missing: a chance to B~Free.
FREESPACE, founded by Vince Gaa, WebsterX, and Janice Vogt, hosts a monthly, all-ages, free music showcase that gives young Milwaukee musicians opportunities to perform alongside up-and-coming and seasoned artists. Their showcases at the Jazz Galery Center for the Arts offer artists and attendees chances to connect, share, and freely engage in their culture.
Riverwest FemFest seeks to empower our communities through the celebration of art. It is a platform for femmes, trans, GNC, women, non-binary and POC, honoring the reclamation of power for those who have been historically excluded from, or not had, creative spaces.
WHAT IS GRACE WEBER’S MUSIC LAB?
The Music Lab is a FREE monthly music and arts education program and talent accelerator for Greater Milwaukee area high school students! At the Music Lab, students have the opportunity to learn about the music and entertainment industries through featured guests. They are also given the opportunity to collaborate, perform, and build relationships with their peers.
WHAT DOES THE MUSIC LAB LOOK LIKE?
We start with a 30 minute interview with our featured guest, including a question and answer period with student questions. We then move into our Open Mic portion for student performers with suggestions and observations from our featured guest! We end on a workshop or performance with our featured guest based on their artistic preferences and how they want to engage with our students.
WHY DO WE DO THE MUSIC LAB?
We believe that collaboration through music and the arts is critical to bridging the divides in Milwaukee communities. We hope that new friendships, collaborations — and maybe even Milwaukee’s next big musical force — will form out of the Music Lab. We want to give young people a space to create, be heard, and feel valued!
