88Nine Radio Milwaukee

88Nine Radio Milwaukee is proud to present 88Nine Labs – a series of tech talks and hackathons aiming to connect the Milwaukee tech and creative scenes, and merging diverse voices and talents. 88Nine Labs is presented by Northwestern Mutual with support from Aurora Health Care.

The first event in the series is a tech talk with Alicia V. Carr on May 8 as part of the 88Nine Cultural Commons initiative.

Alicia V. Carr, is the first self-taught, African American woman mobile developer to create a domestic violence app dedicated to helping victims escape abuse. Purple Evolution, Inc. (PEVO), formerly The Purple Pocketbook, was established to empower women experiencing domestic violence with the essential tools required to develop a safe, secure exit plan.

Alica will discuss her journey to become a programmer, her experience as a woman of color in tech, and why she created an app to help victims of domestic assault. A Q&A will follow her presentation.
