Jane’s Walk MKE – Safe Passage: Connecting 53211 & 53212
May 10, 2018 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pmFree
The 2-mile, accessible walk will begin with a gathering at the Urban Ecology Center discussing safe streets. The walk will lead participants across the Locust Street bridge to Riverwest, continue south, and then cross back over at North Avenue. Both bridges will be going through construction shortly in order to make the streets safer for pedestrians, bicyclist, and drivers. The walk is intended to bring to light safe passage between two communities.
About your walk leader: Kate M. Nelson is the Chief Sustainability Officer at UWM, an Urban Ecology Center Board Member, and core team member of MKE\\\’s Path to Platinum, working to make Milwaukee’s streets safe for all users.
Please register, this Jane’s Walk is LIMITED TO 60 participants. The walk will be cancelled if there is inclement weather.
Jane’s Walk MKE is part of a worldwide movement of over 200 cities hosting free, citizen-led walking tours inspired by urbanist and writer Jane Jacobs, but Milwaukee is unique by expanding Jane’s Walk from one weekend to the whole month! Jane Jacobs (1916-2006) was a writer, urbanist and activist who championed the voices of everyday people in neighborhood planning and city-building.
