Register online at https://oakcreeklibrary.org/src starting June 15. Be sure to visit the library’s events calendar at https://oakcreeklibrary.org/events to stay up to date with all the fun activities the library will have to help keep your vacation days full of fun and fairytales, including Tuesday Family Fun Afternoons. All programs in this series will take place from 1:30 – 2:30 p.m. and will be held online using the virtual conferencing platform Zoom.
June 16: “Dragons: Return of the Ice Sorceress” by Science Tellers
A long time ago in a faraway world, two brave villagers go on a daring journey to release the dragons and save the kingdom from the Evil Ice Sorceress. When things don’t go as planned, however, they might need to look to themselves (and to science!) for the answer. Don’t miss this fun fantasy adventure featuring awesome dry ice effects!
July 21: Glen Gerard
Magician Glen Gerard will amaze us with a magnificent magic show. Integrating comedy, sleight of hand, and outrageous audience participation, Gerard gives his audience first-class entertainment.
July 28: “Dragons and Dinosaurs” by Colossal Fossils
Dragons. Griffins. The Cyclops. Did you know that real fossils inspired many well-known mythological creatures? This mythology-themed program showcases the origins of some famous monsters! We will travel the world, discussing myths and fairy tales from Japan to Europe and even right here in North America. We will compare the stories with actual fossils so that kids can see how ancient humans came up with these tales in the first place. For example: Wooly mammoth bones are common in Greece, and it is thought that their strange skulls inspired the story of the one-eyed Cyclops. Colossal Fossils will showcase a collection of shark teeth, dinosaur bones, mammoth bones, and some awesome surprises.
In addition to these Family Fun Afternoons, join Oak Creek Library and DJ Deb from Dance Dance DJ Service for a Virtual Dance Party! Find an open space in your home where you can freely dance along. This program will be held on Tuesday, August 4th from 1:30 – 2:30 p.m. via Zoom.
These events are open to all ages and sponsored by the Friends of the Oak Creek Public Library. Registration is required. Since the library will be using the Zoom platform, they only need one family member to sign up for each program.
