Since its establishment, the Shanghai Jewish Refugees Museum has been trying to preserve the history of about 20,000 European Jews who fled to Shanghai in order to avoid persecution by the German Nazis in the 1930s and 1940s. At that time, most countries closed doors and Shanghai became the only option for those desperate Jews.
