Every week, Milwaukee Music Premiere connects the city’s artists with our listening audience. If you’re an artist with a track you’d like us to debut exclusively on Radio Milwaukee, head over to our Music Submission page to learn how.
JV Harris had a decision to make: Continue traveling the artistic path that resonated with others but left him feeling empty, or take a new direction he found more fulfilling at the expense of the success he built to that point.
For Harris, there was no choice. So he put hip-hop behind him in favor of the Christian contemporary approach you can hear in this Milwaukee Music Premiere of “More Than Anything.”
The single is an emergence of sorts for Harris, who struggled through a difficult time internally, even as external validation came rolling in. As it says in his bio, “as applause and accolades began to decorate his path, the void within only seemed to deepen. Each verse, while a soothing balm to others, casted a larger shadow over his soul, drawing him deeper into a whirlpool of emptiness.”
A men’s Bible study group pulled him out of those waters and turned music into the personal sanctuary he always wanted it to be. “More Than Anything” is a thank-you note of sorts, bursting with gratitude in its musical approach — upbeat, bright, joyful — and its lyrical content:
Yeah, I’m losing it without you
And I want you to take my hand and lead me to
Exactly where I’m supposed to be
And I don’t need to know your plan, but I’ll take that chance
I know that you know way more than me
As Harris said in notes accompanying the new track: "This song is a mirror to my journey, reflecting on the adversities but also the hope that carried me through." You can hear that hopefulness in “More Than Anything” using the player at the top of the page and when it gets released on all platforms this Friday.
