Hi, what is your name, title and organization?
Jessica Franzen, Owner & Sparrow Collective.
What’s one song you can’t stop listening to?
“Dang!” by Mac Miller featuring Anderson .Paak
What are you most passionate about in regards to what is happening in our community and what is Sparrow Collective doing for the community?
Supporting locally and independently owned businesses is crucial in supporting the local economy and Sparrow Collective is so grateful to be part of a community who understands that. Milwaukee has a rich small business community and we love the opportunities to collaborate and support each other. In addition we’ve been pleased to carry handmade products from local and national artisans since our beginning ten years ago. it’s wonderful to know you are purchasing a unique product and putting money directly into a local artist’s pocket which again drives our local community and economy.
How did Sparrow Collective get started and what is in store for 2019-2020?
Sparrow began as a rebirth of the previous shop, Fasten Collective, which showcased locally made wearable products. In 2009 myself and former partner Lisa Wierzbinski purchased the business and expanded to carry all types of handmade work from artisans across the country. Over the last ten years we’ve continued to expand the types of products and vendors we work with. This last year we began traveling to the Las Vegas fashion markets and have begun carrying women’s clothing and many new accessory lines which we will continued to expand upon.
Our 10th anniversary is this month. We’ll be celebrating with an event on May 18th from 9AM-7PM. We’re doing a back room clearance sale, Sparrow Tote Bags for the first 100 guests, Little Havana Express Food truck will be serving food and there will be live Irish Music from Beth Allison 11:30am-1pm.
Why do you choose to support 88Nine?
