‘Anatomy of a Fall’ review: Did the whodunnit do it for us?

Every week, Kristopher Pollard from Milwaukee Film and Radio Milwaukee’s Dori Zori talk about movies — because that’s what you do when you’re Cinebuds.

This week’s pod has a definitive global flavor, as Kpolly and Dori parlent du French film Anatomy of a Fall, starring German actress Sandra Hüller — and border collie Messi.

The murder mystery was an absolute darling at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, with the movie taking home the Palme d’Or and Messi winning the arguably more prestigious Palm Dog. The unofficial awards show is in its 22nd year and absolutely lapped up Messi’s performance, which Anatomy of a Fall director Justine Triet called “as much a part of the film’s ensemble as any of the other actors.”

Because of the nature of the movie, our Cinebuds need to do a fair amount of tip-toeing in this episode as they talk about the whodunnit that’s also a courtroom drama and a family drama AND a suspenseful thriller. Plus it’s in two languages! The movie, not the podcast.

The question is: Did Kpolly and Dori fall for the film, or did they need to push through it? They’ll deliver their verdict and, as always, talk about what else they’ve been watching this week.
