Every week, Kristopher Pollard from Milwaukee Film and Radio Milwaukee’s Dori Zori talk about movies — because that’s what you do when you’re Cinebuds.

There’s been a lot of Cinebuds history made in the last few weeks. Our dynamic duo hosted their first movie-music crossover interview, called in a Taylor Swift superfan to help with their Eras review and just last week talked to a bona fide Oscar winner!

This episode continues the remarkable run as Kpolly sets a new Cinebuds land-speed record for delivering a verdict on the film of the week: 50 seconds!!!

I wouldn’t say that qualifies as a spoiler considering the movie in question, The Holdovers, heavily features cinematic treasure Paul Giamatti as an instructor at a private school who’s forced to supervise the students stuck there for holiday break.

Does Giamatti’s character immediately turn the situation into a winter wonderland filled with joy and singing and tinsel? Of course not! Curmudgeonliness is the order of the day — a Giamatti speciality — for this film that conjures other school-based ghosts of cinema’s past, most pointedly The Breakfast Club and Dead Poets Society. Take the rebelliousness and mouthy humor of the former, combine it with the heartfelt and occasionally heart-rending moments from the latter, and you have The Holdovers.

How did that play with our Cinebuds? Well, you already know half the answer, so let’s make it a solid 100% by hitting that “Listen” button at the top of the page. And while the pod hits your ears, make a side trip to Instagram (@cinebudspodcast) for more content and Photoshopping fun!
