Every week, Kristopher Pollard from Milwaukee Film and Radio Milwaukee’s Dori Zori talk about movies — because that’s what you do when you’re Cinebuds.
There aren’t many things on the cinema calendar that would motivate us to delay the much-anticipated weekly release of a new Cinebuds episode by a whole day. The Oscar nominations are one of those things.
Dori and Kpolly have spent a whole year talking about movies and actors and directors and songs, and this moment is the culmination of that year. They take that very seriously, coupled with their usual brand of levity, and approach the task of breaking down the nominations accordingly — and exhaustively. Their analysis actually starts not with the nominations themselves, but with the people who announced the nominations (Zazie Beetz and Jack Quaid, in case you were wondering). That’s how comprehensive this is.
Of course, the meaty chunks of this episode are the various nods that the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences gave out Tuesday morning. Like the rabble-rousers they are, Dori and Kpolly start with the snubs and why certain people (cough … Greta Gerwig … cough) were left off certain lists. They also leave plenty of room to pat themselves on the backs for all the movies they told you were cool way before they were nominated (Anatomy of a Fall and The Last Repair Shop, to name just a couple).
There’s even more to find in this episode — from their favorite Oscar hosts to a brief dive into the mind of a voter — and you can hear it all using the “Listen” button at the top of the page or wherever you get your podcasts.
