Every week, Kristopher Pollard from Milwaukee Film and Radio Milwaukee’s Dori Zori talk about movies — because that’s what you do when you’re Cinebuds.

Forty years after its release, the original Ghostbusters is still deeply beloved. One could also argue that, 40 years after its release, that first movie has never been approached in quality by any of its sequels. But, considering the initial film’s status as a new classic, is that the standard we should be applying?

We once again find ourselves asking that question because once again we have a new Ghostbusters movie to pore over. Frozen Empire follows the events of 2021’s Afterlife that took the ghoul-chasing to Oklahoma and introduced a new generation of ’busters — or rather a next generation considering their connection to the high-haired Egon Spengler. Now, they’re back in New York for a storyline with a bigger dose of the original Ghostbusters alongside the newbies, including the delightful Paul Rudd.

The word “delight” comes up a time or two in this episode of the podcast as Dori and Kpolly debate the general merits of franchises like this one, uncover the Easter eggs scattered throughout Frozen Empire and take way too long to remember Rick Moranis’s name.
