Each week on This Bites, dining critic Ann Christenson from Milwaukee Magazine and Radio Milwaukee’s resident foodie Tarik Moody dig into the city’s culinary and restaurant culture to help you find new spots, old favorites and the best ingestibles around Milwaukee.

The holidays are a hopeful time of year, when we try to see the good in things. So for this holiday-adjacent episode, we start by looking at the bright side of Soup Brothers closing back in August.

Ann provides that positivity by talking about Hen’s Deli, which opened this week in the space at 209 W. Florida St. She shares her curiosity about the relatively straightforward menu, as well as what the reworked location will look like on the inside after the “funky, retro, vintage” feel of the previous tenant.

After that, we go full librarian and rattle off our favorite cookbooks from this year. We’re talking snacky and savory, woks and … Wakanda? You want the explanation, click that listen button. And use those other buttons at the top of the page to subscribe, like, review and share. Thanks.
