Each week on This Bites, dining critic Ann Christenson from Milwaukee Magazine and Radio Milwaukee’s resident foodie Tarik Moody dig into the city’s culinary and restaurant culture to help you find new spots, old favorites and the best ingestibles around Milwaukee.
We try not to step on each other’s toes in the Radio Milwaukee podcast family, but since Cinebuds spent a little bit of time talking about food recently, we thought it was only fair to dip into the movie scene at the top of this episode.
While we’d love to apply our critical acumen to the silver screen, we decided to stick with our specialty for this discussion about the best places to eat during the Milwaukee Film Festival. The event is going on right now at a couple movie houses across the area, all of which are a popcorn kernel toss from some great food options.
You’ve got Crossroads Collective for the Oriental Theatre crowd, dual cafes (Canela and Hollander) near the Downer Theatre, and just a ridiculous number of choices not too far from the Avalon Theater in Bay View. Ann picked out six places on KK and Howell avenues to highlight in the magazine, and you’ll hear us add a little seasoning to that list in this episode. Here’s what else we sprinkled into the chat:
- Ann continued her blind devotion to Top Chef by chatting with chef-testant Dan Jacobs about his experience on the show.
- After a half-century of service in Milwaukee, Pizza Man shut down its Riverwest location this week.
- The new talent in Milwaukee’s culinary scene will take center stage at Amilinda’s Rising Stars pop-up dinner.
- On the beverage front, the Ivy House will host a craft-cocktail competition in partnership with Heirloom Liqueurs and Bittercube.
All in all, this is a pretty sweet episode, and we’d appreciate you being just a little sweet by dropping us a rating or review wherever you listen. Thanks.
