For the month of July, Uniquely Milwaukee will shine a well-deserved spotlight on the unsung heroes of our city: the loyal regulars who not only frequent our bars, restaurants and museums, but also play a vital role in keeping everything running smoothly.
These dedicated individuals form the backbone of our community through their unwavering support of Milwaukee businesses and spaces. Throughout this month, we’ll stop by a few familiar and perhaps unfamiliar spots that hold significance in our city, such as Oakland Gyros, Throttle Twisters biker bar, the Milwaukee Public Museum and even bingo night at a local Knights of Columbus Hall.
Before we delve into those worlds, however, we decided to dedicate the first episode of Milwaukee Regulars month to the people who help us reach these places — the city’s bus operators. These are the folks behind the wheel every day, navigating our streets and helping provide the reliable transportation that gets us to our destinations and literally connects us to our community.
On this episode of Uniquely Milwaukee, we start with a debate among Radio Milwaukee staff about what exactly is a regular and then dive into an in-depth interview with Rodney White, a Milwaukee bus operator and platform instructor. He shares his perspective from the other side of the yellow line, why he does what he does, the wonderful people he meets on a daily basis, and his favorite views of Milwaukee from beyond the wheel.
