State of Sound: Alyssia Dominguez

A woman plays an acoustic guitar while singing into a microphone with her eyes closed on stage in a darkened performance space.
Jen Ellis

Alyssia Dominguez is precisely the kind of artist we had in mind when we decided to evolve our local live-music show and create State of Sound. Raised in Dousman and Oconomowoc, Dominguez brought a wider Wisconsin perspective and musical influences to the stage for this episode. But her life experiences extend well beyond the Badger State’s borders.

Dominguez has family in Nashville and essentially splits her time between there and here — something you’ll hear throughout her four-song set. We don’t play much country over 88Nine’s airwaves, but Dominguez’s intertwining of the genre with her family heritage is a perfect fit for State of Sound, and we can’t wait to see where it takes her next.

You can listen to the episode using the player above, get more information about Dominguez on her website, and catch her live next Wednesday, July 12, at Red Arrow Park from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. as part of Milwaukee’s Heart(beats) of the City series.
