Riverwest

In the second part of our series "88Nine Presents: Milwaukee with John Gurda," we explore the neighborhood of Riverwest, following the chapter from local historian and writer John Gurda's new book, Milwaukee: City of Neighborhoods.

Without a doubt, Riverwest is one of the most diverse neighborhoods in the city. -- Historian John Gurda

"Riverwest has always been a place where you have these currents mingling starting in the 1800s," says Gurda. "There’s a very active political scene, art scene, and club scene. Without a doubt, Riverwest is one of the most diverse neighborhoods in the city."

As Milwaukee's long-time center of counter-culture, the neighborhood is still known today for its distinct sense of style and identity.  Art and music thrive there, alongside top-notch restaurants and abundant natural beauty.
