Booze and Girl Scout cookie pairings
Maybe you've finished a sleeve or two of Girl Scout cookies while drinking before, but now there's a chance to do it more strategically. There are actually organized events for this: Saturday, you can get a flight of beer artfully paired with a flight of Girl Scout cookies at Pepi's in Racine.
Here are the Girl Scout cookie pairings set for the event:
- Carmel Delites (samoas)- Oskar Blues Death by Coconut
- Thin Mints-Bear Republic Big Black Bear Stout
- Shortbreads- 3 Floyds Oil of Gladness
- Lemonades- Milwaukee Citron Saison
Or, if you want to try to stage some pairings on your own, we found some recommendations online.
Tarik is a whiskey guy, so he gives his picks on some cookie and bourbon pairs.
- Thin Mints & Basil Hayden’s
- Peanut Butter Patties & Johnny Drum by Willett
- Samoas/Caramel deLites & Angel’s Envy Rye (Not a bourbon, but still good)
Ann gives her picks for wine lovers.
- Thin Mints & Pinot Noir
- Lemonades & Pinot Grigio
- Peanut Butter Patties / Tagalongs & Cabernet Sauvignon
Community Supported Agriculture
Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) is becoming a member of a local farm by purchasing a share of fresh produce from a local farmer. In return, you receive just-picked, healthy foods throughout the growing season directly from your farmer. Your share is boxed and delivered to a pick-up site near you. Each box can contain anything from seasonal produce to meat, eggs and honey.
The concept can be intimidating to a lot of people. It's hard to know which farm to pick or to know how you'll use all of the produce that you get. To learn more, the Urban Ecology Center has an open house on Saturday, March 10 where you can drop in to talk with the farmers, learn about CSAs and the variety of available shares.
Rockabilly Chili
One of Milwaukee's favorite events is back. The WMSE Rockabilly Chili Fundraiser pits over 50 Milwaukee restaurants, cafes and caterers against one another for a chili cook-off. Show up, taste as many chilis as your body can possibly handle and cast your vote to help award Milwaukee's best chili. It's Sunday, March 11 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Pi(e) Day
Wednesday, March 14 (3.14) is Pi Day! Stop in to Honeypie Cafe all day to celebrate the love of science and pie - because with no Pi there is no PIE! $3.14 of every whole pie sold on Pi Day will be donated to Milwaukee Area Science Advocates. And the Folks from MASA will be in the store from 5-7 p.m. to talk pie science and regular science.
