Now that the holidays are officially over its time for all of our favorite part of the year: post-holiday cleanup.
The lights are coming down, decorations are going back into storage and your Christmas tree probably has made (or is making its way) to the curb for pickup. But what happens then?
"Well, in the City of Milwaukee, the city does not mulch the Christmas trees that we put on the curbs. The ones that go out on the curbs just go into the landfill with the trash trucks," says Brenda Lewison, a member of the Washington Heights Neighborhood Association.
But this past weekend, a better alternative came to light at the City of Milwaukee's "Mulchfest," which went on at Washington Park, Enderis Park and General Mitchell Boulevard Park.
"People bring their real Christmas trees and the city and police put them in their mulch trucks, it gets turned into mulch and is used in city and county projects. It's just really a great thing!"

But luckily, that's not our only option for these beloved Christmas traditions.

Looking to teach your kids a good lesson in recycling? Its not too late to still get your tree mulched. Simply bringing it (with lights and ornaments removed, of course) to either of Milwaukee's Drop Off Center Locations will result in your tree getting mulched and out of the landfill.
