Explore Milwaukee's five bungalow firehouses

Nestled into residential blocks around Milwaukee, if you take a close look, you'll find five unique fire stations.

They've even got a nickname -- "bungalow" firehouses.

That's because they pop up in the middle of neighborhoods, and architecturally, they blend in with the surrounding houses.  Most of the stations are one-story, and some have gabled roofs.

Surprisingly, all five original firehouses remain mostly unchanged, though nearly all have been repurposed for business or residential use.

OnMilwaukee's Bobby Tanzilo joined me in studio to talk about his recent trip to each station for this episode of Urban Spelunking.

Listen below.
