Milwaukee's 'Underground City' turns 90

A longstanding Milwaukee bar is celebrating a major milestone -- nearly a century in business on the East Side.

Landmark Lanes, affectionately known as the "Underground City," is actually in the same building as the Oriental Theater, and you'll see hints their shared architecture and style.

Just take a stop in the restroom and you'll see the same funky tile work in both buildings.

Not too much else has changed, either.  Aside from a few less bowling lanes, the basic concept is the same -- tons of room to roam with plenty of ways to pass the time underground.
And coming up tomorrow, a big celebration will mark 90 years of continuous operation.

Mayor Tom Barrett will declare the day "Landmark Lanes Day," and the bar will throw a party with free Ian's pizza and a Lakefront Brewery tap takeover.

OnMilwaukee's Bobby Tanzilo went behind the pinsetters for this week's Urban Spelunking and joined me in studio to talk about his tour.
