Explore this former Miller tied house in downtown Milwaukee

Before it was a taco joint or a bagel stop -- and tons of other businesses over the years -- this building at 753 N. Water St. was a majestic Miller tied house, kitty corner to Milwaukee's City Hall.

Built in 1904 by the Miller Brewing company, the tavern sold only Miller products and was filled inside and out with branded decor and architectural details.

The building was especially ornate, boasting a brick turret over the main entrance, plus intricate carvings on the outside and keystones. Some of those architectural details were toned down during Prohibition, after about only 15 years, including the turret, which was removed.

Over the years, it would be home to restaurants and other business, including the original home to the MIlwaukee Press Club. (And its iconic mummified cat. Yes, you read that right.)

Listen to this week's podcast below to learn about the building -- and the mummy cat -- and be sure to visit OnMilwaukee for more pictures and history.
