Let’s cut to the chase: Rock the Green is going on this Saturday in Walker’s Point. And when it comes to music festivals, this one is going to be a little different.

Not only does the festival have a killer lineup, but it’s zero-waste efforts make it one of the most sustainable music festivals in the nation. Add those zero-waste efforts together with awesome food, that fantastic lineup and a stunning venue; this music festival is going to be a great kickoff to fall.

Not convinced yet? Check out these 5 reasons you can’t miss Rock the Green this weekend:

Makenzie Boettcher | 88Nine Radio Milwaukee

  1. It’s, literally, one of the most eco-friendly festivals in the nation.

Did you know that the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) estimates the average person at the average festival creates about a pound of garbage?

…Not here!

Rock the Green utilizes zero-waste efforts including recycling, composting and reduction and reuse of materials everywhere they can. In fact, when it’s all said and done, 93% of the waste generated at the event will be reduced, reused or recycled.

2. The “venue” is at one of the coolest spaces in Walkers Point.

Does your mind go blank when you here the name “Reed Street Yards?”

…So if you’re on Pittsburgh and 2nd Street (right by Purple Door Ice Cream) keep going straight and, boom, you’re at Reed Street Yards. Still drawing a blank? It’s basically a huge green space in the backyard of the Iron Horse Hotel.

Not only is this location surrounded by some of the most innovative (and eco-friendly) businesses in Wisconsin, but you’ve also got a beautiful view of the Milwaukee skyline, you’re right on the river and you’re just a short walk away from the heart of Downtown Milwaukee.

3. Some (phenomenal) national performers are coming to Milwaukee JUST for this.

Some of your favorite 88Nine artists are going to be swinging by: Lord Huron, Thao and the Get Down Stay Down, The Heavy, Best Coast, Robert DeLong…

4. …and not to mention awesome local acts, as well.

Trapper Schoepp, Eagle Trace, NO/NO, Great Lake Drifters, Foreign Goods and the New Age Narcissism crew.
