A local third grade student is asking for your vote as she competes for a $10,000 grand prize to plant trees at her school playground.
Annabelle Tornio, 9, was selected as one of ten finalists in the Scottie's Trees Rock challenge. The paper products company sought video entries from students across the country asking them to explain why they think "trees rock."
Here's the video Annabelle and her mother, Stacy, created:
If her video gets enough votes, Edgewood Elementary School in Greenfield will receive a $10,000 check to beautify its south playground. Principal Sue Sterner said the money would be used to purchase trees and picnic tables, creating a shady area for students to enjoy.
"Some [students] like to come out and read, do homework or just sit around and talk. There's a really no place to do that," Sterner said.
Annabelle has already raised at least $500 for finishing as a finalist.
Online voting has begun and will continue through Feb 6. Votes can be cast daily. Follow this link to the voting page, and click the podcast player above to her our interview with Annabelle and Principal Sterner.
