Salve Regina: Can Hall’s performance in ‘Honk for Jesus’ save the film?

Every week, Kristopher Pollard from Milwaukee Film and a mystery co-host talk about movies and maybe — just maybe — become Cinebuds.

This week I'm joined by a local artist, legend and enigma (yes, wrapped in a riddle, obviously): Dwellephant! He and I talk about the new film, Honk For Jesus. Save Your Soul.

The feature film debut from twin filmmakers Adamma (director) and Adanne (producer) Ebo — and co-produced by Daniel Kaluuya and Jordan Peele (not too shabby!) — is a satire of the megachurch culture and all that comes with it. Played brilliantly by the amazing Regina Hall and Sterling K. Brown, the very wealthy preacher and his wife take a hit after a huge scandal in the church. We follow them in this half-mockumentary as they try to stage their comeback.

We almost abandon the chat about the movie altogether and just start spouting pure praise (pun intended) for Hall, who we both have huge admiration for. Duh. Ah-men. We also discuss what else we've been watching and how cool we are in general.
