Conversations on race and inclusion aren’t always easy to have. …Especially if you’re in a room of strangers.
But thanks to a new program put on by Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC), starting the conversation just got a little bit easier.
"When the violence broke out in Sherman Park, we had been talking about how we can be a community convener and have more discussions in the community about how important our diversity is," says MATC's President Dr. Vicki Martin.
And their result came through the program, Diversity Dialogues: a monthly meet-up, essentially, operating as one large community conversation.
And with the program being free and open to the public, these meet-ups include various speakers, breakout discussion groups and closing with a moment for reflection,
"I think that providing some content for the community members to actually respond to and have conversations about has provided a nice format and a better understanding of what's going on and how they might continue to heal and find ways to reach out and work together."
