You can cruise from Milwaukee to Antarctica — for the low price of $50,000

If you've ever had to brave a Wisconsin winter, you already know cold weather. But there's a new opportunity to test your limits: a two-month cruise from Milwaukee to Antarctica.

Departing Milwaukee on Sept. 8, 2023, the Viking Octantis will take passengers on a 70-day, 10-country excursion called the Longitudinal World Cruise III that includes an extended stay near "the last continent."

The ship, which first arrived in Milwaukee this past May, will spend two days in port before embarking on a journey through the Great Lakes, eventually reaching the Atlantic Ocean for stops in New York City; Charleston, S.C.; and Fort Lauderdale, Fla. After a stop in Cozumel, Mexico, the Octantis will then cross the Panama Canal to the Pacific Ocean and head down the coast of South America.

After 63 days at sea, guests will arrive in Antarctica to spend five days walking with penguins and admiring the whales passing by. But those once-in-a-lifetime experiences come at a cost; a stateroom aboard the vessel starts at $49,995.

When all is said and done, the cruise wraps up in Ushuaia, Argentina, where travelers will disembark, catch a charter flight to Buenos Aires and head home.
