The Milwaukee Repertory Theater recently received an NEA grant to host The Big Read. The Big Read, an initiative of the NEA, was created to revitalize literature and the importance of reading and literacy in our culture. The Rep chose Harper Lee's class novel, To Kill a Mockingbird, as the centerpiece of The Big Read Milwaukee, I went to the kick off event on September 26, 2011.
The Rep will work with various community partners to host events between September 2011 and March 2012, including book discussions, screenings of the film To Kill a Mockingbird (at various locations throughout Milwaukee), panel discussions, and even an art contest!
