The Power Dinner Club/Community Stories Summer 2012

The American Heart Association presents ‘The Power Dinner Club’…sounds nice, doesn’t it? Well, it is.

The Power Dinner Club is a monthly intimate dinner for 25 guests in select venues across Metro Milwaukee. The goal of this club is to reduce cardiovascular diseases and stroke outcomes for at-risk populations. Each dinner includes a free three-course meal, information about the meal, the chef and specific venue, in addition to health tips and information from local medical experts.

The most recent Power Dinner Club was held at Café Manna in Brookfield. So, why Café Manna? Well it’s one of the first 100% vegetarian restaurants in Southeastern Wisconsin and is the first certified green restaurant in Wisconsin. Café Manna strives to create fresh, ‘made from scratch’ food. Their ingredients are grown either organically or come from using sustainable farming practices. This is just one example of the restaurants that The Power Dinner Club gets to experience.

The reason the Power Dinner Club started was to address the key risk factors for heart disease and stroke among underserved communities. The Health Equity Department strives to reduce heart disparities among these affected communities. The Power Dinner Club is a unique Milwaukee dining experience for health enthusiasts. It literally fuses the intimacy of a dinner party with the ease of a restaurant. It’s a chance for guests to experience heart-healthy cuisine, increase a diverse palate and meet other PTES Ambassadors. By the end of dinner, guests leave with life-saving information on how to improve their cardiovascular health not to mention the power to reduce their risks for heart disease and stroke.
