Jama Ko is the third studio album from Malian maestro Bassekou Kouyate and is a heady mix of melodies and harmonies. We also find the legendaru n'goni player letting loose some heavier arrangements as compared to earlier releases. Malian music has perhaps nerver been more relevant, with the backdrop of the country’s political turbulence and refugee crisis adding an urgency few forms of pop could ever capture.

An artist about whom I know very little about other than he's from/based in Bristol. The sound is well traveled and holds up to the roots test. Conscious vibrations flow on this intriguing little single from an artist known as Jashwha Moses .

I have been digging Copia Doble Systema for a minute, that's why I was super surprised this one slipped past me in October of 2012. From an EP of the same name, we find the duo of DJ Copyflex and Jens Fokking and their crew bringing their Scandinavian cumbia to a maturity I've not heard from them yet. This too-short EP also features an excellent collaboration with Mungo's HiFi andbodes well for things to come

A group I also played that I would love to know more about is Colomach. Their self-titled was just released by Soundway Records with precious few details about the product. Frustratingly dope little slice of vintage-sounding afro-rock with shout out lyrics over monsterous guitar licks. Really out of the blue, and as I mentioned, no back story so far...
