Tuesday's Sound Travelling was mostly Latin, save the last hour when I spun some excellent Angolan Semba from my favorite Angolan musician (and the first one I was exposed to); Bonga. Though his name sounds like that of a percussionist, José Adelino Barceló de Carvalho aka Bonga Kwenda, is a folk and semba singer whose talent has not only made him a long career but also a folk hero in his native Angola.
The other hours of Sound Travels were mainly newer; some of the rising stars on the latin alternative scene like The Mexican Institute of Sound or M.I.S. for short and DJ Raff, both on the Nacional Records imprint.
Last, but actually first, was the Bossa classic I played from Astrud Gilberto, whose catalogue includes some of the best, and most well known bossa nova tunes ever. She's famous for her rendistion of "The Girl From Ipanema" but her lesser known work is just as excellent like the one I played to start Sound Travels just after the 10am hour, just perfect for our late morning deluge.
