City partners with Yelp to showcase new ReFresh plan

The City of Milwaukee hosted it's first-ever Sustainabilty Week earlier this month, showcasing  ReFresh Milwaukee, the city's new sustainabilty master plan.

The week of events was organized completely online in partnership with Yelp and the Office of Environmental Sustainability.

“It’s a great collection of the events themselves, but also action items people can move towards,” said Yelp Organizer Rachel Fell.

ReFresh Milwaukee sets goals in categories such as human capital, food systems, water and energy to improve sustainability and the local economy.

The week included panel discussions, and visitors could take tours of local programs at the Urban Ecology Center, Great Lakes Distillery, Milwaukee Brewing Company, and others that emulate the goals of ReFresh Milwaukee.

The campaign also took to social media with the hashtag #ReFreshMKE. Participants used the hashtag to share sustainability tips and ideas.

“My hope is that anybody who’s actively engaging in this sphere of eco-friendliness and sustainability uses that hashtag and continues to take this momentum and run with it,” Fell said.
