Habitat For Humanity kicks off 30th season

Milwaukee Habitat For Humanity last week broke ground on its latest construction project in the Washington Park neighborhood, adding six owner-occupied homes to a block hit hard by foreclosure.

During this month's "Blitz Build," Habitat volunteers will focus their efforts on the 2100 block of North 38th Street.

When the construction is complete, home ownership on that block will climb to 75%, according to Executive Director Brian Sonderman.

2014 marks Habitat's 30th season building homes in Milwaukee, and it has built "534 and counting," Sonderman said.

For the third year in a row, the Brewers Community Foundation was the presenting sponsor of the kickoff event, and it has teamed up with Brewer's Outfielder Ryan Braun and the Brewers Wives to provide a $50,000 donation toward the build, according to a news release.
