Milwaukee students find similarities through public art project

My Milwaukee/Our Milwaukee is a collaborative project between fifty-two students from MC2, a charter school in the city of Milwaukee, and University School of Milwaukee, a private school in River Hills.  During the 2013-2014 school year, students developed relationships with each other around the essential question of how to create community—“Our Milwaukee”— in a way that values all members. Through discussions in both Spanish and English students explored racism, segregation, and other issues that plague our city. After creating individual expressions of identity in relation to Milwaukee, students formed small groups to create art pieces that could positively impact the community.

The project resulted in seven different public art pieces displayed in Walker's Point, the Third Ward and at the Lakefront.

Check out the story above to hear from one set of students about how this project has formed bonds they hope will last a lifetime.
