Last week, hundreds of leaders representing Milwaukee's business and nonprofit sectors convened for Boys and Men of Color Week to discuss solutions around male achievement and leadership.
The week of events examined Milwaukee's challenges in a broad sense, exploring topics such as fatherhood, community organizing, youth leadership, education, and increasing economic opportunities for males of color.
The week was organized locally in response to President Obama's " My Brother's Keeper" initiative, a challenge to local governments across the nation to increase opportunities for young people of color.
According to the event's website, Milwaukee is one of the nation's poorest cities with approximately 30 percent of its residents living in poverty.
