Adopt a pet for free in December

From now until the end of the month, two local animal rescue organizations are partnering to offer waived adoption fees on certain dogs and cats.

Adoptable animals from  Milwaukee Area Domestic Animal Control Commission are available under the promotion, as well as MADACC animals at The Wisconsin Humane Society, MADACC's largest transfer partner.

More than 120 cats and 30 dogs are up for adoption at MADACC, and about 100 additional animals are available at WHS, according to a joint news release.

Dogs and cats arriving to MADACC are stray animals that, after seven days, have not been claimed by their owners.  Dogs up for adoption are typically pitbull terriers.

The promotion, "Home For the Holidays," is made possible because of a special gift from Skylark Vending.  Owner Stan Kass said he wants everyone to be able to experience the joy of bringing home a shelter animal and gave this gift to support the sterilization, vaccination, microchipping and adoption of approximately 250 animals.

WHS also has a  website showing adoptable animals.   Just look for the "waived fee" note next to each animal's profile.
