Holiday Brass
Holiday Brass
On Saturday, December 7, 2024 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Sebastian’s Parish in Milwaukee, the Milwaukee Festival Brass will present a performance of its popular seasonal program “Holidays in Brass,” highlighting the variety of traditions old and new that make up this festive time of year.
“The holidays are a time when we immerse ourselves in memory” said Music Director Mark A. Taylor. “We recall the sights, sounds, and even smells of favorite holiday gatherings from years past -- these are powerful reminders of our connection to beloved family and friends.”
The concert opens with James Curnow’s “Intrada on Regent Square,” a contemporary setting of the carol ‘Angels From the Realms of Glory.’ A fanciful, cinematic treatment of the old English carol “I Saw Three Ships” follows. New band member Ben Reid will be the featured soloist on Peter Cornelius’s plaintive setting of “The Three Kings.” The first half of the concert concludes with a masterwork, again from the pen of James Curnow, “Laude” -- a set of variations based on the hymn melody ‘Praise to the Lord, the Almighty.’
In the second half, listeners will enjoy a bountiful array of holiday favorites, including the Wexford Carol from Ireland, music from ‘A Muppets Christmas Carol,’ and a good old-fashioned Christmas carol singalong.
Please join us on December 7 for “Holidays in Brass”.
