Swamp Thing Returns to the Madison Memorial Union Terrace
Swamp Thing Returns to the Madison Memorial Union Terrace
Swamp Thing, the mid-80s eclectic rock band, played their first show in the Memorial Union Stiffskellar in 1982. They return to play the Memorial Union Terrace this August 1, 44 years later. The show begins at 7 pm. Man’s Body from Chicago opens.
The band made a record with Butch Vig; played with the Violent Femmes; performed at CBGB’s and dozens of other clubs across the Midwest, East Coast, and Canada; and played a key role in the start of the Knitting Factory jazz club in NYC. Memorial Union shows over the years were some of the band’s most epic, strange, and festive concerts.
Past Union shows have included making a full dinner on stage while performing, dressing all in white and playing a live original score for “The Creature from the Black Lagoon” projected on them (as well as a screen), stripping, swimming, and flinging freshly toasted Eggos out into the crowd. Some of those moments may be reprised at the upcoming show. This concert is free and family friendly.
