MKE Concert Pick: No lie, William Tyler will move you at Cactus Club

Milwaukee’s concert scene has a lot going on, so we look at the shows coming up to find the ones you’ll look back on and be glad you went. Then we add them to our weekly “Milwaukee Concert Picks.”

Nashville-born, Cali-based William Tyler creates beautifully cinematic psych folk that leaves a special impression when experienced live. The musician and producer spent his formative musical years playing behind indie-rock bands such as Lambchop and Silver Jews, as well as for Bonnie “Prince” Billy. Since then, he’s stretched his legs to walk into his own strong solo role as an instrumental artist who creates dynamically striking soundscapes.

To witness a live performance from Tyler is to hear stories unfold naturally – like an author reading aloud from a book of collected works. His music takes the listener to places and spaces only the imagination can allow to bloom with the right inspo.

William Tyler & The Impossible Truth (his current full-band formation) includes Brian Kotzur on drums, percussion and bells; Jack Lawrence on bass; and Luke Schnieder on pedal steel. Tyler is touring behind his most recent release, Secret Stratospheres, a live album layered with electrified and acoustic guitars, and ever-moving percussion. Hear it even more live when they play Cactus Club this Wednesday, with Chris DeMay and Red Stuff opening the show that starts at 7 p.m.
