Milwaukee’s concert scene has a lot going on, so we look at the shows coming up to find the ones you’ll look back on and be glad you went. Then we add them to our weekly Milwaukee Concert Picks.

Led by singer-songwriter Geneviève Beaudoin, Dead Gowns expertly fills their songs with tender vocal harmonies, sweet orchestral embellishments and plenty of down-to-earth guitar grittiness (which acts as the spice in whatever beauty she dishes out).

Hailing from Portland, Maine, the band’s vivid storytelling really pops on their latest EP, HOW — a great snapshot of their deeply intimate sound that will undoubtedly be on display during an equally undoubtedly captivating live performance at Anodyne on Bruce tonight, March 29.

Joining Dead Gowns is sonically like-minded Milwaukee artist Caley Conway (hot on the heels of her own EP) and wonderfully energetic show opener Mark Waldoch & The Hallelujah Ward. If you’ve never actually seen Waldoch perform, you surely have heard of him; the iconic Milwaukeean with the big voice and big heart has been making indie art-pop for over a decade in different incarnations, and it’s always a thrill to watch in action.

Waldoch currently shares his creative output with his band The Hallelujah Ward (feat. Dan Didier and Paul Hancock on drums and bass, respectively), and now is a really great time to spend some time with them. Starting at Wednesday’s show, they’ve got some exciting things on the horizon.

Via Instagram, Waldoch recently shared this post:
