Jazz in the Park and Bastille Days have been postponed, the East Town Association announced today. The organization made the call amid ongoing uncertainty about when it might be safe for Milwaukee to hold large gatherings again.
In a statement the organization said that it may pursue alternate dates for its events, including the popular Thursday night Jazz in the Park series, which has been canceled through July, and the Bastille Days Festival, which had been scheduled for July 9-12.
"We are currently working on alternative dates and options to host our world class Bastille Days event in the fall, pending any future developments due to the COVID-19 pandemic," the organization wrote. "The health and welfare of the community is our number one priority and we will do our part to keep the best interests of our attendees and vendors in mind."
One tradition will continue as scheduled, however, albeit in a virtual form: a Virtual Madison Medical Affiliates Storm the Bastille run will take place July 9-12. Online registration opens Friday, May 1, and the $25 registration fee will include a run bib and a commemorative long sleeve T-shirt.
"Your participation supports our organization’s mission and our continued efforts to navigate the challenges of planning events in the current landscape," East Town wrote. "We encourage you to share selfies, track and record your time, and connect with us and our beloved Bastille Days partners digitally. "
