Watch Lakeyah slay her XXL Freshman Cypher verse

Last month Milwaukee rapper Lakeyah made history when she became the city's first artist ever to appear on XXL Magazine's prestigious Freshman Class list. Now comes the fun part: the XXL Freshman Cypher. Each year the magazine pairs its chosen rappers together over beats they'd never usually rap over, alongside rappers they'd never usually share a track with, and has them fend for themselves. It always produces a few memorable moments (usually for the better, sometimes for the worse).

But sure enough, Lakeyah crushes her verse. Paired with fellow list-mates DDG, Coi Leray and "Quicksand" rapper Morray, the Milwaukee native spits 60 seconds of hard bars along with reminders the she's not even 21 yet ("How the f*ck she a freshman when she dropped out of college?" she asks.)

I think Morray's howls of approval ("Fire! F*cking fire!" he beams) pretty much sum up the verse, but the YouTube reaction video class seems to approval as well. You can watch one of those reaction videos below.
