To Milwaukeeans, Carl Nichols is probably best known as one half of the acclaimed folk duo Nickel&Rose. But for the last couple of years, he's directed his songwriting toward a new project, his solo blues act Buffalo Nichols. And today he announced some big news: Buffalo Nichols has been signed to Fat Possum, becoming that label's first solo blues signing in nearly 20 years.
Buffalo Nichols' self-titled album will be out on Fat Possum on Oct. 15, and today he's shared its opening track, a tender number called "Lost & Lonesome." Now based in Austin, he's got an aggressive tour schedule lined up for the rest of the year, including a tour with Drive-By Truckers and dates with Heartless Bastards and The Wallflowers, as well as a show at Milwaukee's Back Room at Colectivo on Saturday, July 31.
